Except perhaps for the folks in Cupertino. With plans to expand to an additional 85 new markets and launch Spotify HiFi, there is no chance for any rival to overtake them. With almost 175 million Premium subscribers, the streaming titan has a sizable percentage of the digital music streaming category. Spotify is clearly the Godzilla of the streaming world. Those of us who understand the power of Spotify saw this as a huge opportunity for the high-end audio industry to reach a new audience. If we take a look back at 2021, Spotify made a huge deal about Spotify HiFi and even hired the services of Billie Eilish to promote their massive foray into “hi-res” streaming.Įven when that was only going to be 16-bit/44.1kHz streaming for its premium subscribers. Maybe over time artists will mix their music better around the idea of surround audio, but for now it just doesn't sound very good.The bottom line is that Spotify doesn’t have a date yet and I would not expect to see it in Q1 2022. Dolby audio is also a pretty gimmicky thing. Even then, the new stuff you hear is incredibly tiny and just not worth it. You'll only hear something new with AM's lossless if you have the ears and expensive audio equipment for it. Regarding audio quality, AM lossless and Spotify high quality are virtually the same.
Doing this through Spotify is a giant hurdle and you can't even add actual albums because everything you upload has to go on a playlist. The only real advantage one platform has over another is how much easier it is to upload local songs and albums into Apple Music. Whatever philosophy personally fits you more, go for it. Spotify on the other hand, is more oriented towards discovering new music in their nicely curated playlists. Apple Music is for listening to albums and organizing your library to your liking. I've said this before countless times and I'll say it again - the main difference between the two platforms is their philosophies.
